Mehiar Dabbagh
Ph.D.
School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Oregon State University

Welcome to my personal website! My name is Mehiar (pronounced Meh-Yar). I obtained my Ph.D. from the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University (OSU) in 2016. Before that, I received the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon in 2012 and the B.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Aleppo, Syria in 2010. My major is Networking & Security and my minor is Machine Learning.

My Ph.D. thesis research revolves around reducing the energy consumption of Cloud Data Centers by leveraging machine learning prediction techniques in order to make efficient scheduling, overbooking, VM migration, resource allocation and UPS battery management decisions.

My research interests include: Cloud Computing, Distributed Systems, Data Center Management, Energy Efficiency, Internet of Things (IoT), Software-Defined Networking and Data Mining.

I am currently working as a software engineer in the Search Infrastructure group at LinkedIn. I enjoy developing software that solves problems in distributed systems and in cloud environments. Besides working as a software engineer, I continue to conduct research during my free time. Prior to working at LinkedIn, I worked at a startup called MosaixSoft, where I developed efficient resource management solutions for Docker clouds. During my Ph.D. studies, I also interned with Cisco in San Jose, CA and with HPE in Seattle, WA where I worked on developing cloud-related technologies.

During my free time, I enjoy playing the Piano, drawing, hiking and playing tennis.
